Before and after graffiti removal in Birmingham: concrete underpass wall cleared of graffiti
Concrete underpass wall cleared of graffiti

No Graffiti Ltd is a graffiti removal and exterior cleaning contractor working across Birmingham and the West Midlands. We remove tags, paint and posters from brick, terracotta, stone, shutters and cladding, and we pressure wash, de-gum and protect the surfaces around them. Call 0161 399 5247 or send photos through our contact page and we will reply the same day with a method and a free quote.

We have been working since 2001 and have completed more than 10,000 projects. Our vans are based in Macclesfield, Cheshire, and we plan scheduled visits to Birmingham. We are CHAS accredited, fully insured, supply RAMS and COSHH paperwork for every job and are open seven days a week.

Bullring, New Street and the Birmingham shopping core

The Bullring, Grand Central above New Street station and the pedestrian streets around New Street and Corporation Street draw huge crowds. Heavy footfall means gum ground into the paving, stickers on columns and signs, and tags in the side streets and service areas behind the main frontages.

We clear shutters and shopfronts early in the morning or out of hours, steam chewing gum from entrances and walkways, and remove fly-posting and stickers without tearing the surface underneath. Single shops and whole parades are both welcome.

Modern shopfronts use powder-coated steel, anodised aluminium and toughened glass, and each needs the right remover. We test first and clean in sections so the finish stays even, rather than leaving a bright patch where the tag used to be.

Colmore Row, Southside and Brindleyplace business districts

Birmingham's business improvement districts cover much of the centre. Colmore BID takes in the office district around Colmore Row and Snow Hill, Southside BID covers the Chinese Quarter, the Hippodrome and the Gay Village, and Westside BID includes Broad Street, Brindleyplace and Centenary Square. Each has a different mix of offices, bars, theatres and restaurants, and a different graffiti pattern.

Office landlords and facilities managers mostly want entrances, plazas and side elevations kept spotless, while the evening economy around Southside and Broad Street needs doorways, shutters and pavements cleared before opening. We support business improvement districts and their members with specialist cleaning that sits alongside their own street teams.

Digbeth: protecting murals and removing tags

Digbeth is known for its street art, with the Custard Factory, the railway viaducts and the old warehouses covered in commissioned murals and festival pieces. That culture is valued, and we do not treat a commissioned mural as graffiti. What we remove, on the owner's instruction, is unauthorised tagging: names sprayed over murals, throw-ups on shutters, and tags on neighbouring buildings whose owners never agreed to them.

Where artwork and clean walls meet, we work carefully up to the edge of the mural and can apply a protective coating to the plain surfaces. If you are not sure whether a piece was permitted, check with the building owner, then send us photos.

  • Tags sprayed across commissioned murals, removed on the owner's request
  • Shutters and doors on Digbeth High Street and the side streets
  • Railway arches and viaduct walls next to business units
  • Fly-posting on hoardings and venue walls

Graffiti on a Birmingham building?

Send photos and the street name. We reply the same day, and offensive graffiti is prioritised.

Red brick and terracotta in the Jewellery Quarter

The Jewellery Quarter is a conservation area full of Victorian red brick workshops, many still in use, with terracotta and stone detailing on the grander buildings. Victorian Birmingham also left terracotta landmarks such as the Victoria Law Courts on Corporation Street. These materials are easily damaged. High pressure can blow out soft brick faces and mortar, and harsh chemicals can stain terracotta.

We use low pressure steam and hot water at around 150°C from DOFF and ThermaTech systems, with poultices and specialist removers for paint that has soaked in, always after a test patch. For whole elevations, stone and masonry cleaning and facade cleaning lift years of traffic grime. On listed buildings, owners should check consent requirements before any coating is applied.

Gas Street Basin and Birmingham's canal network

Birmingham's canals run right through the centre, from Gas Street Basin past Brindleyplace and on through Edgbaston towards Selly Oak. Towpaths, bridges, locks and canal side walls are tagged regularly, and the shaded brick and paving along them grows moss and algae.

Near water we control run-off carefully, using chemical-free cleaning where it works and containing waste water where it does not. Moss and algae treatment makes canal side paving safer underfoot as well as better looking.

Canals in Birmingham are looked after by the Canal & River Trust, while bridges and walls alongside them can belong to the council, Network Rail or private owners. We help clients confirm who is responsible for each surface before work starts, so the right permissions are in place.

University of Birmingham, Aston, BCU and Selly Oak

The University of Birmingham's Edgbaston campus sits next to Selly Oak, where much of its student population lives, while Aston University and Birmingham City University have campuses on the edge of the city centre. Student areas bring tags on gable ends, stickers on lamp columns, fly-posting and gum outside takeaways.

We clean university and college estates during holidays or quiet periods, and help landlords and letting agents with shared houses in Selly Oak and the surrounding streets. Street furniture cleaning covers bus shelters, benches and signal boxes.

Metro stops, stations and highway structures

The West Midlands Metro runs through the city centre to Edgbaston, and New Street, Moor Street and Snow Hill stations all sit within a short distance of each other. Tram stops, station approaches, bridges, ring road subways and retaining walls are frequent targets.

Work near rail, tram and highway needs permits, safe access and traffic management. We supply the paperwork transport operators expect, and our subway and underpass cleaning deals with pedestrian tunnels and walkways.

Moseley, Kings Heath, Harborne and the suburban high streets

Beyond the centre, Birmingham's suburbs have busy high streets of their own. Moseley village, Kings Heath High Street, Harborne High Street and the centre of Sutton Coldfield all mix independent shops, bars, restaurants and flats above. Graffiti here is usually a tag on a shutter, a sticker trail along lamp columns or paint on a side wall, but it spreads quickly if it is left.

Many of these frontages are Victorian and Edwardian brick with painted timber or stone details, so we use the same gentle methods as in the Jewellery Quarter. Several shops on one street can share a visit, keeping the call-out cost per business down, and we can advise on coatings for the shutters hit most.

Housing estates from Aston to Sutton Coldfield

Birmingham City Council is a major landlord, and housing associations hold homes across the city in Aston, Small Heath, Erdington and beyond. Estate graffiti tends to collect in stairwells, bin stores, garage courts, play areas and boundary walls. We work quietly on occupied sites, either on a fixed round or on call-off.

Our housing association and council pages explain how we report and evidence work, and playground cleaning covers play equipment and safety surfacing.

For housing providers with homes across several wards, we can set out a regular round that covers each estate at an agreed frequency, with photo reports after each visit and urgent call-outs for offensive graffiti in between.

Industrial estates and business parks across the city

Birmingham still has a large manufacturing and logistics base, with industrial areas in places such as Tyseley, Aston and Witton. Long boundary walls, cladding, roller doors and palisade fencing on quiet roads all attract tags, and yards collect oil and grime.

We look after industrial estates and business parks on a schedule, with industrial pressure washing and forecourt and yard cleaning for working areas.

Our wider cleaning services for Birmingham properties

Graffiti is only one part of keeping a building presentable. We clean the whole exterior, so one contractor can cover a Birmingham site from roofline to pavement:

Before booking a coating on an older Birmingham building, check whether it is listed or in a conservation area such as the Jewellery Quarter. We use breathable products, but the owner is responsible for any consent, and it is easier to confirm before work starts.

Coatings and planned cleaning for Birmingham sites

Anti-graffiti coatings make repeat tags far quicker and cheaper to remove. Sacrificial coatings come off with the graffiti and are reapplied, while permanent coatings stay in place through many cleans. On brick and terracotta we choose breathable products so walls can still dry out.

A planned maintenance plan pairs coatings with visits at an agreed frequency, so costs stay predictable and frontages stay clean between visits rather than only after a complaint.

How we schedule Birmingham work

Our vans travel from Macclesfield, so Birmingham work runs on scheduled visits rather than from a local depot. We answer every enquiry the same day, group nearby jobs to keep travel costs fair, and prioritise offensive, racist or threatening graffiti.

On each visit we confirm access, protect the area, test a small patch, clean and send before and after photos. Clients with property in Manchester or Sheffield can put everything on one programme. See our coverage page for every area we work in.

To quote quickly we need a wide photo of the whole wall, a close up of the paint, the surface type if you know it and any access issues such as height or traffic. That is normally enough for a fixed price.

Graffiti removal pricing for Birmingham

Every job has a mobilisation, or call-out, fee of around £200 plus VAT, depending on where the site is, with the treatment priced on top. The treatment price depends on the surface, how much graffiti there is, how long it has been there, access and whether a coating makes sense. Regular contract customers pay less.

Photos and a postcode usually get you a firm price. Our guide to graffiti removal costs explains what affects a quote.

Birmingham Graffiti Removal FAQs

Do you cover Birmingham?

Yes. We cover Birmingham city centre and the wider city, including Digbeth, the Jewellery Quarter, Southside, Edgbaston, Selly Oak, Moseley, Erdington and Sutton Coldfield. Our vans travel from Macclesfield in Cheshire on scheduled visits, and every enquiry gets a same day reply with a clear date for the work.

How quickly can you remove graffiti in Birmingham?

We reply to every Birmingham enquiry the same day and book the work into a scheduled visit, grouping nearby sites to keep costs down. Offensive, racist or threatening graffiti is prioritised ahead of routine cleaning. Send photos and the address and we will confirm a date.

How much is graffiti removal in Birmingham?

Each job has a mobilisation fee of around £200 plus VAT, depending on where the site is, with the treatment priced on top according to surface, amount of graffiti, age of the paint and access. Regular contract customers pay less. Photos usually let us give a firm quote without a site visit.

Can you clean graffiti in the Jewellery Quarter conservation area?

Yes. The Jewellery Quarter's red brick workshops and terracotta details need gentle methods, so we use low pressure steam at around 150°C with DOFF or ThermaTech systems and poultices where needed, after a test patch. We avoid high pressure that would damage brick faces or mortar. Owners should check any listed building consent needs for coatings.

Will you remove street art in Digbeth?

Only if the owner asks. Digbeth has a strong street art scene, and commissioned murals are artwork that we can clean around or protect. Unauthorised tags, including those sprayed over murals, are removed on request. If you are unsure whether a piece was permitted, check with the building owner before booking.

Do you work with Birmingham City Council and the city's BIDs?

We are set up for council and business district work, with CHAS accreditation, full insurance, RAMS and COSHH assessments. Birmingham has several BIDs, including Colmore, Southside, Westside and the Jewellery Quarter. We are happy to quote for them and their members.

Can you look after several Birmingham sites on one contract?

Yes. We put shops, offices, estates and business parks on one schedule with agreed visit frequencies, a single point of contact and photo reports after each visit. Contract customers pay less per visit, and anti-graffiti coatings can be added to the walls that are hit most often.

Do you also offer pressure washing and gum removal in Birmingham?

Yes. We pressure wash paving, forecourts and car parks, steam chewing gum off entrances and pedestrian streets, remove fly-posting and stickers, and treat moss and algae. These can be done on the same visit as graffiti removal so the whole frontage is dealt with at once.
