No Graffiti Ltd is a graffiti removal and exterior cleaning contractor working across Manchester. We take paint, tags, stickers and fly-posters off brick, stone, shutters and glazing, and we clean the rest of the outside too: paving, car parks, facades and shopfronts. Every enquiry gets a reply the same day, offensive graffiti is prioritised for same-day removal, and quotes are free. Call 0161 399 5247 or email hello@nograffiti.co.uk with a photo and the location.
We have been doing this since 2001 and have completed more than 10,000 projects. Our vans are based in Macclesfield, Cheshire, so Manchester is a short run up the road and part of our regular weekly rounds. From there we cover Manchester, Greater Manchester, Cheshire and beyond, including Liverpool, Leeds, Sheffield and Birmingham. We are fully insured and CHAS accredited, and we supply RAMS and COSHH data as standard.
Manchester is a city that gets written on. Tags appear on Northern Quarter shutters overnight, stickers build up on signal boxes and lamp columns, and paint lands on red brick and sandstone long before anyone reports it. Out in Didsbury, Chorlton and Fallowfield the pattern changes rather than disappears: garage blocks, underpasses, school walls, parade shopfronts and the backs of retail units all take their share.
Matching the method to the surface
No two Manchester jobs look the same, and our graffiti removal work is matched to the surface in front of us rather than whatever was on the van last week. Painted steel shutters, powder-coated cladding, uPVC, render, engineering brick and soft sandstone all react differently to heat and chemistry. Getting it wrong leaves ghosting, bleaching or a clean patch that looks almost as bad as the tag.
In practice that means steam and hot water systems such as DOFF and ThermaTech, which work at around 150°C and low pressure, for masonry and stone. We use specialist removers and poultices where paint has soaked deep into a porous face, controlled pressure washing for hard-wearing surfaces, and chemical-free methods where run-off is a concern. That last point comes up a lot in Manchester, because so much of the city sits beside canals.
City centre retail and the Manchester BID
The city centre is where appearance matters most and where tags reappear fastest. Market Street, King Street, Deansgate and the streets around Piccadilly Gardens carry heavy footfall, and a tagged shutter or a stickered doorway is seen by thousands of people before lunch. Retailers, hospitality operators and office landlords here want it gone before opening, so much of our city centre work happens early in the morning.
Manchester's city centre Business Improvement District is run by CityCo, the city centre management company, and is funded by a levy on businesses inside the BID area. If you are a levy payer, a property manager or part of a BID team looking at a wider programme of shutter and shopfront cleaning, gum removal or sticker clearance, see how we work with business improvement districts. We can work to a set route and report back with before and after photos for each site.
Northern Quarter: street art versus tagging
The Northern Quarter has some of the best-known street art in the North. The Cities of Hope festival in 2016 brought international artists to paint large murals around streets such as Tariff Street, and many walls in the area are painted and repainted with permission. Commissioned murals add value to a building, and we leave them alone.
Tagging is a different thing. Quick signatures in marker and spray paint pile up on shutters, doorways, downpipes and the lower few metres of walls, often right next to or over a mural. We only remove what the owner or managing agent asks us to, and where tags sit beside artwork we work carefully around it. The area also sees heavy layering of posters and vinyl stickers, and taking those off without shredding the surface underneath is a job in itself, covered by our fly-posting and sticker removal service.

Victorian brick, terracotta and sandstone
Manchester's older buildings need a lighter touch. The city is full of Victorian red brick warehouses, glazed and unglazed terracotta, and sandstone. The Town Hall in Albert Square, designed by Alfred Waterhouse and faced in Spinkwell sandstone, sets the tone for much of the civic core, while Oxford Road has terracotta landmarks such as the former Refuge Assurance building. Castlefield, where the Bridgewater and Rochdale canals meet, is a conservation area full of brick warehouses and railway viaducts.
Soft stone and old brick can be scarred by too much pressure or the wrong chemical, so on heritage fabric we test a small area first and favour low pressure heat, poultices and gentle removers. Where a building is listed or in a conservation area, we can provide method statements for the owner, their surveyor or the council's conservation team before work starts. Our stone and masonry cleaning and brick and stone surface guides explain the approach in more detail.
Universities and the Oxford Road corridor
Oxford Road runs past the University of Manchester, Manchester Metropolitan University and Manchester Royal Infirmary, with a large student population living in Fallowfield, Withington and Rusholme. That mix brings a steady supply of tags, stickers and fly-posters on bus shelters, campus signage, halls of residence and the parades that serve them.
Campus estates teams usually want work done out of term or outside lecture hours, with minimal noise near teaching and research buildings. We plan around that and can set up a regular programme across a campus. See our page for universities and colleges and for healthcare sites.
Metrolink stops, bridges and canal towpaths
Transport routes attract graffiti because they are long, visible and often unwatched at night. Metrolink stops, bridges and retaining walls along the tram lines, rail arches and the walls facing the tracks all get hit. So do the towpaths of the Rochdale Canal through the city centre and Ancoats, the Ashton Canal out past New Islington, and the Bridgewater Canal at Castlefield.
Canal work needs care because whatever comes off the wall must not end up in the water. We contain run-off and use chemical-free or low chemical methods beside waterways. For underpasses and pedestrian tunnels see subway and underpass cleaning, and for transport clients our transport operators page sets out how we work around access windows and possessions.
Why speed matters
Fresh graffiti attracts more graffiti. A single tag on a side wall in Fallowfield can turn into a covered wall within a fortnight, and once a spot is established it tends to stay on the circuit. Removing quickly breaks that habit, and it is far cheaper to take one tag off clean brick than to strip a whole gable end later.
Tenants notice. Customers notice. Anything offensive, racist or threatening needs to go immediately, which is why our offensive graffiti removal is prioritised for the same day. If something on your wall cannot wait, ring 0161 399 5247 and tell us what it is and where.
- Offensive or hate-related content, treated as urgent and prioritised
- Shutters and shopfronts that need clearing before trading starts
- School and nursery boundaries where children will see it that morning
- Anything at height or beside a live footway, needing proper access and signage
Housing estates, landlords and managing agents
Manchester's estates, from Hulme and Moss Side to Gorton, Harpurhey and Wythenshawe, come with their own rhythm of work: stairwells, bin stores, garage courts, boundary walls and the communal areas residents complain about most. We work for housing associations, managing agents and private landlords, on a fixed round or on call when something needs clearing quickly.
On occupied sites we keep noise and disruption down, cordon off our work area and leave it tidy. Because we also cover the boroughs either side of the city, a portfolio that crosses boundaries does not need several contractors. We work in Salford, Stockport, Tameside and Oldham on the same rounds.
Industrial estates and business parks
Industrial units take a battering: tagged roller shutters, stained yards, oily loading bays and cladding dulled by traffic film. Within the city, that includes estates in Wythenshawe such as Roundthorn and Sharston, and the business areas around Openshaw and Newton Heath. We clean whole sites rather than single walls, using industrial pressure washing for yards and plant areas and forecourt and yard cleaning for the ground.
Trafford Park, the biggest industrial estate in the area, is in Trafford rather than Manchester, so it is covered on our Trafford page. See also our work for industrial estates and business parks.
The full exterior cleaning offer in Manchester
Graffiti is rarely the only thing letting a building down. A clean wall above a filthy pavement still looks neglected, so we handle the whole frontage in one visit where it makes sense. Our exterior cleaning services in Manchester include:
- Pressure washing for paving, entrances, service yards and bin stores
- Chewing gum removal from precincts, shop entrances and pedestrianised streets
- Fly-posting and sticker removal from shutters, street furniture and glazing
- Anti-graffiti coatings, sacrificial or permanent, for walls that keep getting hit
- Facade cleaning and render and cladding cleaning for offices, apartment blocks and retail
- Car park cleaning for multi-storey and surface car parks, including stairwells and lift lobbies
- Shutter and shopfront cleaning for high streets and parades
- Moss, algae and lichen treatment for paving, walls and roofs at ground level
- Bird fouling removal from ledges, canopies, entrances and loading bays
- Commercial exterior cleaning for offices, shops and mixed-use buildings
- Industrial pressure washing for factories, warehouses and depots
- Street furniture cleaning for benches, bins, bollards and signage
Stopping repeat graffiti
Some walls are magnets: a blank render panel facing an alley, a bridge abutment, the rear of a parade. If you are cleaning the same wall every few weeks, protection usually beats more cleaning. An anti-graffiti coating puts a sacrificial or permanent barrier over the surface so the next tag lifts off with less effort, less water and less cost.
Coatings work best as part of a plan. A planned maintenance schedule with agreed response times keeps a portfolio consistently clean, spreads the work through the year and stops small problems piling up until they need a full clean down.
Photograph graffiti before it is removed. Insurers and the police often want a record, and dated photos help you show a pattern if the same site is being targeted again and again.
Councils and public bodies
We are used to the standards that come with public sector work: RAMS, site-specific method statements, COSHH data, control of run-off and proof of accreditation before anyone starts. Our public space cleaning covers subways, walkways, seating areas, bollards and bin housings, and playground cleaning is scheduled around the school day using products that are safe on play equipment and safety surfacing.
As a graffiti removal company in Manchester working with councils, schools and health sites, we keep the paperwork tidy and the results consistent, whether it is one site or a whole programme.
Prices, quotes and contracts
Our mobilisation (call-out) fee is around £200 + VAT, depending on where the site is, and the treatment is priced on top. Regular contract customers pay less. The treatment cost depends on the surface, how much paint there is, access and whether a coating is worth adding. Photos and the location are usually enough for a firm quote, and for multi-site work we walk the sites and build a schedule rather than pricing blind. Our guide to graffiti removal costs explains what affects the price.
One-off cleans, urgent call-outs and ongoing contracts are all fine. Our graffiti removal contractors in Manchester can put together a schedule that matches the site, and if you are not sure what you need, describe the problem and we will tell you honestly what is proportionate. Clients with sites further afield can use the same arrangement across Liverpool and the rest of the North West. See our full coverage.

Same-day response to every enquiry, offensive graffiti prioritised, and planned schedules for everything else. Fully insured and CHAS accredited.
Whether it is a single tag on a Chorlton shopfront or a recurring problem across a city centre estate, the approach is the same: pick the right method for the surface, get it off cleanly, and put something in place so it does not keep coming back.

More than graffiti in Manchester
The same crews and equipment handle the rest of the outside of a building. In Manchester that means facades, paving, steps, cladding, yards and play areas as well as walls and shutters, so one contractor can keep a whole site presentable.

Manchester work rarely stops at one tag. Alongside graffiti removal we clean shopfronts, facades, car parks, paving and street furniture, and protect problem walls with coatings, so one contractor can look after the whole outside of a building.

Manchester Graffiti Removal FAQs
How much does graffiti removal cost in Manchester?
Every job is priced on the surface, the amount of paint, access and whether a coating is worth adding. As a guide, our mobilisation (call-out) fee is around £200 + VAT, depending on where the site is, with the treatment priced on top. Regular contract customers pay less. Send a photo and the location and we will give you a firm quote.
Do you cover Manchester city centre?
Yes. We work regularly across the city centre, Northern Quarter, Ancoats and Castlefield, as well as suburbs such as Didsbury, Chorlton, Fallowfield and Wythenshawe. Where a site is busy during the day we can work early in the morning, in the evening or at weekends so trading and footfall are not disrupted.
How quickly can you deal with graffiti in Manchester?
We respond to every enquiry the same day. Offensive, racist or threatening graffiti is prioritised for same-day removal, and other work is booked in at a time that suits the site. Manchester is close to our Macclesfield base, so the city is part of our regular weekly rounds.
Can you remove graffiti from brick and stone without damaging the surface?
Yes. We pick the method to suit the surface. Hot water and steam systems, specialist chemical removers, poultices or controlled pressure washing may be used depending on the type and condition of the brick, terracotta or sandstone. We test a small area first on older or listed buildings so the finish is not marked or bleached.
Will you remove street art or murals in the Northern Quarter?
We only remove what the property owner or their agent asks us to remove. Many Northern Quarter murals are commissioned and valued, and we leave them alone. Unauthorised tags painted over or next to a mural are a different matter, and we can often take those off carefully around the artwork without harming it.
Do you work out of hours in Manchester?
Yes. We are open seven days a week and regularly work early mornings, evenings and weekends in Manchester. That suits shopfronts that need clearing before opening, offices with busy entrances, universities during term time and schools that would rather we worked outside the school day.
Do you offer graffiti removal contracts for Manchester sites?
Yes. Housing providers, managing agents, retailers and public bodies use us on planned maintenance contracts with regular visits and agreed response times. Contract customers pay less per visit than one-off call-outs, and one contract can cover sites in Manchester, Salford, Stockport, Trafford and beyond under one point of contact.
How do I choose a graffiti removal company in Manchester?
Look for a firm with experience across different surfaces, a choice of removal methods rather than one machine for everything, and the paperwork public and commercial clients need: insurance, CHAS accreditation, RAMS and COSHH. Ask how they would treat your surface and whether they can protect it afterwards so the problem does not keep coming back.
