Halton sits between Liverpool and Warrington, and our crews cover all three. Since 2001 we have completed more than 10,000 projects, and Halton fits easily into our regular graffiti removal in Liverpool and Warrington work.
Two towns, two bridges, one river
Widnes and Runcorn face each other across the Runcorn Gap, joined by the Silver Jubilee Bridge and, since 2017, the tolled Mersey Gateway Bridge, which crosses both the river and the Manchester Ship Canal. Bridge approaches, underpasses, retaining walls and footpaths around both crossings are long, concrete and exposed, which makes them targets.
On concrete and painted steel we use low-pressure hot water and steam, and our subway and underpass cleaning covers the pedestrian routes. Near the river we use chemical-free cleaning with controlled water.
Big structures need more planning than a shop shutter. Work at height, beside live traffic or over water is carried out with suitable specialist access, proper signage and, where the highway authority requires it, traffic management. We agree all of that with the structure owner before a date is set, so nobody is surprised on the day.
Chemical industry sites and industrial yards
Widnes was a birthplace of the chemical industry, a story told at the Catalyst science museum on the riverside, and chemical and process plants still operate around Widnes and Runcorn. Sites like these need contractors who follow strict rules and arrive with paperwork in order.
We are CHAS accredited and fully insured, and our industrial estate work is planned around permits and shifts. On sites with hazardous processes, we check which cleaning products are allowed, where water can and cannot go, and whether hot work or ignition sources are restricted, then choose the method to suit. Sometimes that means steam and hot water only, with no solvents at all.
- Graffiti removal from cladding, gatehouses, fencing and shutters
- Industrial pressure washing for yards, bunds and roadways
- Forecourt and yard cleaning for HGV and loading areas
- Cladding cleaning to restore weathered elevations
- RAMS, COSHH data and site inductions handled in advance
Graffiti or grime on a Halton site?
Send a photo and the postcode. We reply the same day with the right method and a schedule that suits your site.
Runcorn Old Town and Halton Lea
Runcorn Old Town, by the Bridgewater Canal and the station on the West Coast Main Line, has older brick and stone shopfronts, chapels and terraces. Up the hill, Halton Lea is the new town centre built around Runcorn Shopping City, which opened in 1972, with car parks, walkways and bus routes linking the estates. Nearby, Halton Castle stands on its sandstone hill above Halton Village.
In the Old Town we treat brick and stone with steam and hot water and poultices. At Halton Lea it is more often concrete walkways, car parks and gum on paving.
If a footbridge or underpass is being hit every week, combine regular removal with an anti-graffiti coating. The next tag lifts off quickly with warm water, and the structure is not worn down by repeated cleaning.
Estates, schools and Widnes town centre
Runcorn's new town estates, such as Castlefields and Murdishaw, and parts of Widnes include long walkways, garage blocks and communal areas where graffiti builds up. We work for housing associations to regular rounds, and use anti-graffiti coatings on surfaces that are hit again and again.
Widnes town centre and its parades get shutter and shopfront cleaning and fly-posting removal, and schools book perimeter graffiti and playground cleaning outside term time.
The new town layout in Runcorn, with its segregated footpaths, ramps and underpasses, means a lot of hidden concrete that collects tags, moss and litter out of sight of the road. Regular public space cleaning and moss and algae treatment keep those routes usable and less intimidating, especially through the winter when slippery ramps become a real hazard.
Sci-Tech Daresbury and business parks
Sci-Tech Daresbury, the science and innovation campus near the M56, and the business parks around Runcorn and Widnes expect tidy grounds and clean glass and cladding. We offer commercial exterior cleaning and business park cleaning alongside graffiti removal, so one visit covers the whole site.
Modern campuses use a lot of glass, coated metal and composite panels, which are easy to dull with the wrong product. We use coating-safe removers and low pressure on metal and glass, and facade cleaning where a whole elevation needs refreshing. For commercial property owners and facilities managers, a planned visit each quarter keeps entrances, signage and car parks looking as they did on day one.
Riverside parks, nature reserves and green spaces
Halton has more green riverside space than its industrial reputation suggests. Spike Island in Widnes sits beside Catalyst where the Sankey Canal meets the Mersey, Wigg Island in Runcorn was opened as a community park in 2002 with bird hides, and Hale has a quiet stretch of Mersey shoreline. Shelters, hides, signs, benches and walls in places like these attract graffiti precisely because they are quiet.
Cleaning next to water and wildlife needs care. We use chemical-free hot water and steam, keep run-off under control and avoid noisy kit at sensitive times, so the site is cleaned without harming what makes it worth visiting.
Pricing and wider coverage
Our mobilisation fee is around £200 + VAT depending on where the site is, with treatment priced on top, and contract customers pay less. Read more on what graffiti removal costs.
Clients with sites in Warrington or Knowsley can join them up with Halton under one planned maintenance programme.
