St Helens sits between Liverpool and Warrington, and we work in both regularly. We have been removing graffiti since 2001 across more than 10,000 projects, so the borough fits easily alongside our graffiti removal in Liverpool work.
A glass town built from brick
St Helens grew on coal, chemicals and above all glass. Pilkington made the town famous, and the World of Glass museum now occupies the old Crown Glass Works, including a Grade II* listed tank house from 1883. The Sankey Canal, often described as the first canal of the Industrial Revolution in England, opened in 1757 to carry coal from the pits around St Helens and Haydock.
That history left the borough full of red brick, from terraced streets in Parr and Thatto Heath to chapels, schools and old works buildings. Soft, porous brick holds paint, so we lift it with steam and hot water and poultices rather than high pressure.
The town centre, shopfronts and car parks
St Helens town centre has the Church Square and Hardshaw shopping areas, pedestrianised streets, multi-storey car parks and a run of shuttered units. Tags on shutters and stairwells, gum on paving and stickers on street furniture are the daily reality.
We combine graffiti removal with shutter and shopfront cleaning, chewing gum removal and car park cleaning in early morning visits, so the streets are clear before shoppers arrive.
Multi-storey car parks are a particular problem. Stairwells, lift lobbies and concrete ramps are out of sight, so tags and stickers build up quickly, along with oil staining and litter. A combined clean of the stair cores and decks makes a visible difference to how safe a car park feels, and it can be done overnight or early on a Sunday so spaces stay available.
Schools, parks and public buildings
Victoria Park, Sherdley Park and the borough's smaller recreation grounds have pavilions, toilet blocks, bandstands and boundary walls that are regular targets, often over a weekend. Libraries, community centres and leisure buildings face the same problem. Our public space cleaning covers walls, paths, seating and play areas in one visit, with street furniture cleaning for bins, bollards and signs.
For schools the priority is a complete removal before pupils arrive, with no chemical residue on surfaces children will touch. We work in the holidays, at weekends or very early, and provide RAMS and COSHH data in advance so business managers have everything they need for their records.

Newton-le-Willows, Earlestown and Rainhill
The east of the borough has its own character. Earlestown has a market square and a station on the original Liverpool and Manchester Railway, and Newton-le-Willows has conservation areas with older stone and brick. Rainhill is famous for the 1829 locomotive trials held on the same line.
Railway bridges, underpasses and station approaches are regular targets, along with parade shutters and school walls. Near the Sankey Canal we use chemical-free cleaning so nothing reaches the water.
Where a structure belongs to a rail or highways body, access is controlled, so we work to the owner's permits and possession times. Our work for transport operators covers bridge parapets, station approaches and footbridges, with proper access and signage where we are next to a live road or footway.
Haydock and the M6 distribution belt
Haydock, by junction 23 of the M6, is home to Haydock Park racecourse and a large spread of warehouses and distribution units. Big sheds attract big tags, and busy yards collect diesel, tyre marks and litter. Tenants and landlords on these estates are often judged by visiting drivers and customers before anyone steps inside, so a tagged gatehouse or a filthy loading apron sends the wrong message. We plan visits around delivery windows, complete site inductions in advance and keep water away from surface drains.
Our industrial estate work covers:
- Graffiti removal from cladding, shutters, gatehouses and palisade fencing
- Industrial pressure washing for yards and loading bays
- Forecourt and yard cleaning for HGV areas and service roads
- Cladding cleaning to lift weathering and algae
- Scheduling around deliveries, shifts and site inductions
On industrial sites, add graffiti checks to your weekly security patrol. Reporting a fresh tag the day it appears means a quick, cheap removal, and it shows the site is watched.
Sutton, Rainford and the quieter edges
Sutton, Eccleston and Rainford are mostly residential, but schools, parks and community buildings still get hit. Sutton is also home to Dream, the large sculpture on the old Sutton Manor colliery site, a reminder of how much of the borough's landscape is former industrial land.
For housing providers we keep garage courts, bin stores and communal areas clean on a regular round, and playground cleaning keeps estate play areas safe and free of tags and algae. Where a wall is hit repeatedly, anti-graffiti coatings are the long-term fix: a sacrificial or permanent barrier means the next tag lifts off with hot water in minutes, and the brick is spared repeated cleaning.
Pricing, paperwork and joined-up schedules
Our mobilisation fee is around £200 + VAT depending on where the site is, with treatment on top, and contract customers pay less. Read more on what graffiti removal costs. We are CHAS accredited and fully insured, and supply RAMS and COSHH paperwork as standard.
Clients with sites in Knowsley or Warrington can bring them under one planned maintenance programme.

St Helens Graffiti Removal FAQs
Do you cover Newton-le-Willows and Haydock as well as St Helens town?
Yes. We cover the whole borough, including the town centre, Newton-le-Willows, Earlestown, Haydock, Rainford, Rainhill, Eccleston, Sutton, Thatto Heath and Parr. The borough sits between Liverpool and Warrington, both of which we cover, so jobs are easy to fit into our regular routes.
Can you remove graffiti from Victorian brick in St Helens?
Yes. Older brick is often soft and porous, so we use low-pressure hot water and steam systems such as DOFF, with poultices where paint has soaked into the face. That removes the tag without damaging the brick or washing out mortar, and we test a small area first.
Do you clean warehouses and distribution units near the M6?
Yes. We remove graffiti from cladding, shutters and fencing, and wash yards, loading bays and car parks on logistics and trading estates around Haydock and the motorway junctions. Work can be scheduled around deliveries and shifts, with RAMS and COSHH supplied in advance.
Can graffiti near the Sankey Canal be removed safely?
Yes. Near any watercourse we use chemical-free hot water and steam, keep water use controlled and contain run-off where the site allows. It protects the canal and wildlife and keeps you in line with environmental duties, while still getting the paint off bridges and walls.
What does graffiti removal cost in St Helens?
Our mobilisation fee is around £200 plus VAT depending on where the site is, and the treatment is priced on top based on the surface, the amount of paint and access. Regular contract customers pay less. Send a photo and postcode and we will give you a firm quote.
