We have been doing this since 2001 and have completed more than 10,000 projects. The Wirral is part of our regular Merseyside work, which also covers graffiti removal in Liverpool just across the river, so a portfolio split between the two banks of the Mersey can sit with one contractor.

Birkenhead and Wallasey: docks, terraces and town centre shutters

The east side of the peninsula is where most of our Wirral call-outs start. Birkenhead town centre has a mix of shuttered shops, service yards and multi-storey car parks, while the streets around the docks and Wirral Waters carry brick warehouses, boundary walls and railway bridges that get tagged on a regular cycle. In Wallasey and Seacombe it tends to be parades, garage courts and the walls along the approach to the ferry terminal.

Most of this is classic graffiti removal on brick and painted steel. We lift fresh paint from shutters with targeted removers, and use hot water and steam on masonry so the mortar joints are not blasted out. Where a parade is losing the battle, a sweep covering shutter and shopfront cleaning and fly-posting and sticker removal in one visit resets the whole row.

The ferry terminals at Woodside and Seacombe, the Merseyrail stations and the walkways around them see a constant flow of people, and a tagged wall there is seen by thousands before anyone reports it. Where a structure belongs to a transport body we work to their permits and access rules, and our work for transport operators is set up for exactly that.

Estates, schools and public buildings across the peninsula

Large housing estates in Birkenhead, Leasowe, Moreton and Woodchurch have the same pressure points as estates anywhere: garage courts, bin stores, stairwells and boundary walls that are tagged repeatedly by the same few people. Removing it quickly and consistently is the best deterrent we know, because a wall that never stays painted stops being worth painting.

We work for housing associations and managing agents on fixed rounds or call-off arrangements, with agreed response times and before and after photos for every job. Libraries, community centres and leisure buildings get the same approach, with RAMS and COSHH data supplied before we start and work timed around opening hours.

Sandstone, Hamilton Square and the peninsula's heritage

Red sandstone is everywhere on the Wirral, in churches, boundary walls, gate piers and the older civic buildings. Birkenhead's Hamilton Square is a Grade I listed set piece, Birkenhead Park was the first publicly funded park in Britain, and Port Sunlight village, built by Lever Brothers from 1888, has been a conservation area since 1978 with around 900 Grade II listed buildings. None of these surfaces tolerate careless cleaning.

For historic stone we use steam and hot water cleaning at low pressure, and poultices where paint has soaked into the bed of the stone. Wider stone and masonry cleaning can follow so a cleaned patch does not stand out against a weathered elevation.

On soft sandstone, ask any contractor for a test patch before work starts. A good result on a hidden corner tells you far more than a promise, and it protects a surface that cannot be replaced once it has been scarred.

Promenades and sea walls from New Brighton to West Kirby

The North Wirral coast is a long run of promenades, sea walls, shelters and steps. Around New Brighton you have King's Parade, the Marine Lake, the Floral Pavilion and Fort Perch Rock, and the coastal path carries on west through Leasowe and Moreton to Hoylake and the West Kirby promenade. These structures face salt spray, sand abrasion and constant visitors, and they pick up graffiti, algae and bird fouling in equal measure.

Seafront work needs its own plan. Run-off goes straight onto the beach, so we favour chemical-free cleaning and controlled water, and we schedule around tides and busy days. Sea wall concrete is often weathered and open textured, so paint sits deep in the surface. Hot water at around 150°C from a ThermaTech system softens it without the high pressure that would roughen the face further.

Bromborough, Bebington and the retail parks

South of Birkenhead the work changes again. Bromborough has large retail parks including Croft Retail Park, plus the industrial units around Wirral International Business Park, and Bebington and Port Sunlight blend housing with commercial sites. Big sheds and car parks bring their own jobs: tags on cladding, gum on entrances and oil on service yards.

We handle retail and business park cleaning, car park cleaning and render and cladding cleaning on the same visit as graffiti work, which keeps disruption to tenants and shoppers down. For retail parks and shopping centres we can work early mornings or after closing.

Heswall, Hoylake and the quieter west side

The western Wirral is more residential, but it still sees tags on station underpasses, parade shutters and school boundaries. Heswall's shopping streets and the village centres at Hoylake and West Kirby want a quick, discreet fix rather than a big operation, often before traders open.

Schools across the peninsula use us for playground cleaning and perimeter graffiti in the holidays, and private landlords call us for render and brick after an overnight hit. Where a wall is hit repeatedly, anti-graffiti coatings make the next removal quick and cheap.

Quotes, pricing and ongoing schedules

Photos and a postcode are usually enough to price a job. Our mobilisation fee is around £200 + VAT depending on where the site is, with the treatment priced on top, and regular contract customers pay less. Read more about what graffiti removal costs.

For housing estates and multi-site portfolios a planned maintenance round is usually better value than one-off call-outs. Many Wirral clients also hold property in Sefton or Halton, and we can combine them into a single programme. We are CHAS accredited, fully insured and supply RAMS and COSHH paperwork as standard.

Wirral Graffiti Removal FAQs

Do you cover the whole of the Wirral?

Yes. We work across the peninsula, including Birkenhead, Wallasey, New Brighton, Moreton, Hoylake, West Kirby, Heswall, Bebington, Bromborough and Port Sunlight. Wirral sits alongside our regular work in Liverpool, so sites on both sides of the Mersey can be handled under one schedule with one point of contact.

Can you clean graffiti off sea walls and promenade structures?

Yes. Promenade walls, shelters, steps and railings along the North Wirral coast are mostly concrete, render and painted metal. We use hot water and steam at low pressure, plus chemical-free methods where run-off could reach the beach, and we plan coastal work around tides and footfall so the promenade stays open.

How do you remove graffiti from red sandstone without damaging it?

Sandstone is soft and porous, so high pressure and harsh chemistry can scar it or drive paint deeper. We use low-pressure hot water and steam systems such as DOFF, and poultices that draw pigment out of the stone. A small test patch comes first, so you can see the result before we commit to the whole area.

Can you work on listed buildings in Port Sunlight or Hamilton Square?

Yes. Listed and conservation area buildings need the gentlest effective method and a clear record of what was used. We supply method statements, COSHH data and before and after photos, and we will work with the property owner or managing body so the approach suits the building's heritage status.

How quickly can you deal with offensive graffiti on the Wirral?

We respond to every enquiry the same day. Offensive, racist or threatening graffiti is prioritised for same-day removal wherever possible, and we will confirm a firm schedule as soon as we have a photo and a location. Call 0161 399 5247 and tell us what it says and where it is.
